Sticks skeptical hand in the air |

Hi guys,
I'm a from South Africa. I snowboard (irregularly since it's not the best spot down South hehehe), I sandboard regularly (most wknds) down mine tailings in Johannesburg, South Africa. I also Freebord regularly. At least twice a week.
I love ALL board sports and have tried surfing, wakeboarding, windsurfed ( alot hen I was younger) and I believe all board sports are born equal (kinda) The problem is accessibility.
If I lived at the sea, I would surf, but I live inland.
I would wakeboard more if I had boat.
Windsurfers take time to set up and require good wind, and a dam.
Snowboarding - seasonal and dependent on snowfall etc, usually costs to go there (unless you're lucky enough to live in some blessed Alpine village)
Sandboarding I do regularly cos I'm lucky enough to have a sand "dune"
I freebord all the time because it is the most accessible urban gravity sport. You need a decline. That's all.
The t-board looks cool, I would certainly try it out and would probably enjoy the carving feeling... BUT I would need perfect wide roads with NO traffic. I just don't see where that is possible in an urban environment like a city. As it is we have to choose our killer Freebording runs for traffic, sometimes boarding late at night to avoid cars. But we also have the ability to avoid them ourselves and have no problem bombing down a hill into oncoming traffic. We can control our turns on a dime and stop within metres/yards.
Looks like the T-board doesn't have that amount of control.
Additionally, we alternate our freebording between tricks (although I see some tricks in the vids) and long lazy downhill carving runs. I don't know if t-boards have that sort of diversity. Maybe you'd get bored of simply long carving runs all the time.
One more thing though. Aggressive marketing. I understand you guys want to sell your invention, and I understand the demo version... but it all comes across a little bit like you're pushing a gimmick.
Rider testimonials and vids should be more than enough to sell a board.
Within seconds of watching a Freebord video I wanted one. But here I am on your site saying I'm skeptical.
Also... perhaps stop with the whole snowboard thing. It's obvious from watching that it can do the carving thing, but so too can trucks like the aptly named Carver Trucks. And of course there's things like the Flowboard which also try that sort of thing.
At the end of the day, the Freebord... simply from watching videos online... even before I bought one, was the only board that I could "see" was mimicking riding on snow. IMHO.
And having Freeborded I just felt it that way. You adjust your mindset to snowboarding on asphalt and hey presto, you can freebord.
That's no coincidence.
Still, I'm interested to try one out, so if you see fit to ship one out to SA, gimme a shout!
Alternatively, price one out for me, shipping included, in South African Rands and I may just buy one for the hell of it. |
